Let’s talk

One operator. Three steps. One workflow in use.

Aurelio: a money tracker that asks before acting

A free net-worth tracker that keeps your money records on your own computer, with an optional AI advisor that never changes anything without your OK.

What it is

Aurelio is a free personal finance tracker made by Loris, an AI engineer with a background in economics and data science. It keeps tabs on your net worth: investments, ETFs, cash and debts. It can also take a fund apart and show you where your money actually sits, by country, sector, company and currency.

The quiet part is where it lives. Everything stays in one file on your own computer. No account, no upload, nobody else's cloud.

The part I like

There's an optional AI advisor, set to use Claude by default. You plug in your own key and ask it things. The project's own estimate puts a simple question at around 11 cents and a full portfolio review at about 51 cents.

But it never touches your numbers by itself. Every change it suggests shows up as a little card, and you confirm or reject it. Think of a sharp accountant who slides a note across the table instead of grabbing your ledger.

That pattern matters well beyond personal money. It's exactly how I'd want any AI near a company's books to behave.

Words worth knowing

  • Open source (MIT license): the code is public and free to use, change or build on.
  • Running locally: the app works on your own machine, so your data never leaves it.
  • API key: a personal password that lets an app use an AI model, billed as you use it.
  • OpenRouter: a service that connects apps to many AI models through a single key.

Something to think about

Have a look at github.com/LosaLosSantos/aurelio-finance. Even if you never install it, keep the idea: next time a tool offers AI that edits your data, ask whether it asks you first.
