AI can now edit video by writing HTML

Why video was the last thing AI couldn't touch

If you've ever tried to get an AI agent to produce a short explainer video or a polished slide-to-video presentation, you've probably hit a wall. The problem isn't that the AI lacks ideas — it's that professional video tools like After Effects speak a language the AI was never taught. Their files are like locked filing cabinets.

HeyGen just released something called HyperFrames that quietly sidesteps that entire problem. The idea is almost embarrassingly simple: instead of teaching AI to speak After Effects, they asked what language AI already speaks fluently. The answer is the same language behind every website you've ever visited.

So with HyperFrames, a video composition is just a webpage — with a timeline baked in. The AI writes it, a headless browser renders each frame, and out comes an MP4. No subscriptions. No cloud uploads. Everything happens on your own machine, and the result is identical every time you run it.

For a founder building anything that needs video — product demos, pitch visuals, data summaries — this is the missing piece. You're not replacing your video editor for a big brand film. But for the repetitive, templated stuff that takes too long? This is the kind of thing that changes how you staff a project.

Words worth knowing

AI agent — a program that can take a goal and figure out the steps to complete it, without you doing each step manually.

Open-source — the code is free, public, and anyone can use or inspect it. No vendor lock-in.

Headless browser — a web browser with no visible window. It loads pages silently in the background — useful for taking screenshots or, in this case, capturing video frames.

Deterministic — means the output is always the same given the same input. Like a recipe: same ingredients, same dish, every time.
